Something I am intrigued in is why do bad habits take control of our lives. Main points I would focus on are what a habit really is, how they can become a routine, and how to break down a bad habit. Habits come naturally when in our physical and social environments, while doing this what we may think is a habit of some sort becomes an addiction. Gambling, smoking a cigarette, and drug use are prime examples of a repetitive action that we think is just a simple habit. Some of this has to do with neurological conditions. Neuroscientist are researching whether the more extreme spectrum of habits; including obsessive compulsive disorder, are more like normal habits because they are so drastic. When talking about about how they become a routine it has uncovered that the brain is responsible for the habit. They become so natural that we perform them without even noticing; like making sure the oven is turned off or the door is locked when you leave the house. Another thing I want to touch on is how to break said habit. Even though some habits seem automatic, they are controlled by you. By learning how the brain establishes and maintains habits, scientist hope to figure out how people can figure out how to break them.
